5 tez collection: Free-to-mint

By tz1VnrVqx2MZyUr89CXahbSWUtTfNuA9KBWY

fx(hash) is famous for its early low-cost and free-to-mint projects like the FXHASH logos, RGB Elementary Cellular Automaton, and myriad Punevyr projects, but you can still find great work on fx(hash) and objkt for 0 tez.

I sent a fresh wallet 5 tez, then collected 70 works from a variety of genres, covering topics from silly to serious, blockchain art navel-gazing to powerful activist conceptual art across, static, animated, code-based, text, photography, and animation. I focused on art and avoided PFPs, and every single piece presented here cost 0 tez. After fees I still have 2.066418 tez, talk about an affordable chain to transact on!

One of the differentiators between collecting art on Tezos vs. other chains is the community, and that was very much at play in this project. In my search for 0 tez works to collect I came across projects that hadn't minted out but still had unclaimed reserves. I thought about exploring the community aspect in two different ways:

  • I reached out to@tz1UXYCS3mXavUqVzMCncrN4EFh6w84Nvdkmto ask if he'd be willing to remove reserves for two of his projects
  • I reached out to @tz1SawhUHXWjiGK8gPK6QPmn95G8PkkSjA3Swho had an unclaimed reserve on a 0 tez project and asked him if he'd be willing to mint for me and then transfer

I don't think I've had any interaction with Mikkel or Punevyr but they both responded quickly, and were both very friendly, and they both said yes. This is what I have experienced over and over collecting on Tezos. The artists are accessible, human, and kind, and it makes me love being a part of such a great community. Thank you Mikkel and Punevyr!

I'll be the first to admit that the work I collected is a bit uneven in its quality and it was challenging to curate a cohesive presentation with such variety, but I think that is an honest representation of the past and present work released on Tezos, and I like that veracity.

If I were to present this as a show I would curate the work into a series of separate galleries, similar to a museum, so the viewer had the experience of moving from one gallery to the next, carrying the context of that space into the next. I've tried to represent that with the separate collections in my gallery.

This is part of the #5TezCollection project, a grassroots effort championed by @tz1PgMiRHHCjLaJZPS739cJKnNHGaRXYnsCn @tz1gmu6JWBtVempivULkthcWT3hgXjtHz2xT @tz1hvfkpf7HbnE1Rroi7JbyegVjZzu97Yqw6 @tz1Leeuh3oFcFEHyr2XJeLxMLLPAsso1t9f3 that started in the fxhash discord. Thank you for the prompt!
