okay, okay. yes the abstract is the lyrics to 1997's boy band 5ive with their infamous pop-panacea Slam Dunk (Da Funk). Does it have much to do with my 5 tez collection. Um, I guess not.

Apart from the fact that 5ive is just one slither of an incredibly broad brand of music I might have on in the background day to day. A very very narrow slither, sure. But who doesn't have 90s pop appearing in their Spotify auto-gen playlists? Luckily for me, and my neighbours, I have a lot more music that I like a lot more, but it's in no way all from one genre, era or really related in any way.

I've never been a laser-focused being, and my inability to focus on one thing for an incredibly long time is both a superpower and a superflaw. And given this, I wanted to curate a selection of pieces that reflects the variability of the attention my brain wanted to engage with.

A delightfully disparate bevvy of artworks from across objkt and fxhash from artists I know and love, and a number of artists who are new to me - which is another huge benefit of movements like 5tez collections.

The collection covers a variety of mediums, with some beautiful photography from Sak_Karoos, Al Keddie and artpardini.tez.

One of my favourite things about digital art in general, is the idea of being able to showcase it on digital displays in the (hopefully near) future. Checkout Andre Fvchs work on DIYFrame.xyz for more on that. And nothing excites me more than to be able to showcase animated artwork in future homes and offices. So my collection had to feature some animation. Here we have work from 6ixty [Isospace], Bwcaboy [Isometric Sway] and purzbeats.tez [message received].

fxhash has introduced me to gen-art and the natural creative approach and interactive aesthetic that these often come with. Three fxhash projects I've included in my collection are indicative of some of the variety of work I've collected in the past; Timelines by Fauxjebus (a project I've been a bit fan of since release), Siren by OCM#5965 (a new discovery for me) and Wall of Noise by unsleeping_ik (a good example of a project I meant to return to, but likely forgot). The three of these don't necessarily go together as a triptych, but are representative of the different styles, complexity and aesthetics I'm often drawn to.

Functionality I've been really excited to explore in 2023 on fxhash has been params. As a creative person, who's failed every time they've tried to learn how to code (likely due to the aforementioned focus rivalling that of a common housefly) params opens up a world in which I can be hands on with the work an artist produces, letting me behind the curtain, and allowing me to be part of the production of an output. There's been such a variety in how artists have used params, and it's been a delight to play with so many works. A work I had missed til today was DigitCell's Romeo and Juliet on Punched Cards. A playful, interactive exploration of lines from Shakespeare's most famous work, and now, the bard's most famous params project.

And finally, I wanted something eye-catching to complete my 5tez collection - and I was drawn to magonometria's 1000 Followers #2 when browsing through another collectors collection. The textures reminded me of Jeres' Tragedy / Static Heaven - a work I love and have as my background for all devices, and this was a bright delight to round off the 5tez spending spree.

Oh, and that pop-classic I was referring to? Enjoy...
