ArtUP - Vol. 1
Let's start with Likes!, by Fabi Yamada. The work is a collaboration between mother and young daughters, aged two and four. Fabi Yamada's skills with composition and color shine, and yet her hand never overpowers the confident work of the children, their innocence a welcome respite in this often disappointing world. I cannot look at the smiling bee without smiling myself, drunk on color, and imagining the three at a kitchen table lost in happy creativity. Their work is a blessing to one another and to us.

All this is served in liberalism, by Ce Vignolo, is somber by constrast. It is brave work, excavating the contours of self, of time, of place, of this mortal coil. I am drawn in, and find myself slowing down, comforted by the gentle palette and yet challenged by the symbolism, even a bit haunted. It is work that gives you no choice but to think, deeply, to look, deeply, and spend time in communion. As Ce excavates her reality, she forces me to do some digging in my own.

I was drawn to "Alphabetic ancestral signs" - (Matrix v3), by _deadcode_, through a common interest in symbolic communication. That interest, and the overall graphic style and visual impact of the images sucked me right down the rabbit hole. I began to explore all of _deadcode_’s work and found CARPE DIEM - millennial loop, an exploration of time, a mathematical marvel, and a timepiece itself. It is a fascinating, living project that tugs on our preconceptions and expands our very notions of what art is and can be.
