Glyphs II
Glyphs II is literally made from strife and suffering. The work is composed of the headlines of the New York Times, gathered during the month of October, 2022. Through the use of asemic fonts and repetition, the words are eroded, effaced, and erased of meaning. By scrubbing the words into a thing of beauty, I defy them and rob them of their power. I then replace them with words evoking the positive.
I have a core belief that is foundational to my well being and that lies at the heart of this work. I believe that, regardless of circumstance, if we tune our awareness to focus on the current moment we can always find, in this very instant, something that is good, true, and beautiful. Be it only the blue of the sky above, the loving eyes of a child, the beauty of a tiny plant growing in the crack of a desolate sidewalk. Furthermore, this practice of awareness is not only a boon to ourselves, but is an act of wellbeing given to all within the reach of our energy. Like art, it has the power to reshape the world.
May Glyphs II bring you within reach and give you a moment of pure awareness.
