There and Then - Page 0 - About

By notes from outside

"There and Then" is a choose your own adventure game where the community of readers collectively chooses the path of the story. It is open ended, as there are many stories to delve into. There is, in fact, an entire multiverse of stories and multiple storylines can be explored at the same time.

This is one of the two big differences to traditional choose your own adventure stories. Usually a choose your own adventure book, a text adventure, a visual novel, lets you navigate one story, within one genre; "There and Then" is more like life, made up of many different chapters and sometimes a single moment can turn your life into a thriller... or a tragedy... or a comedy... of errors?

The other difference is that "There and Then" is communal. Okay, but what does that mean?

Pages are published on fx(text), at the bottom of each page you will be presented with a choice of how you want the story to continue.

Choose an option, follow the link and buy the token it leads you to.

At this point the token will just contain some instructions, no story elements, or page title, cause, you know... spoilers. The option that receives the most votes is the one that is going to be told next, at which point the token gets edited to contain the actual story.

How much are the tokens? What's the schedule? Do tokens have to sell out to be published? Roadmap! Roadmap! Roadmap!

Each page will have an edition size of 500 and be available for 0.5 Tezos. A token DOES NOT have to sell out for the story to continue. The exact schedule is something we're going to have to figure out together as a community. We probably don't want too much time to pass before the story continues, but at the same time publishing too frequently means it may get too expensive for some to participate, even at 0.5 Tezos. The bigger the community the faster we'll be able to progress, so feel free to tell your friends, family, strangers on your least hated social media, to join the fun.

If the majority decides against the option I have chosen, does that mean I have paid for an empty token?

No, every page with at least one vote/owner will be told eventually, it might just take a while. The story isn't strictly linear, it will branch out in multiple directions at the same time. Votes prioritize which part of the story is going to be told next, but every story wants to be told. The author also reserves the right, not to overrule the majority, but to publish pages in addition to the ones that have the most votes so readers of storylines that aren't as popular aren't left hanging forever.

Can I buy multiple tokens to have multiple votes?

You can buy as many tokens as you want to. You can vote for multiple options at the same time, and you can also buy multiple of the same token, each will count as a vote. So if you REALLY, REALLY want to know how a particular storyline continues and want to whale it into existence, you can.

What happens once a story page is published?

Prior to a page being written token ownership counts as a vote for which page should be published next, but readers will still be able to purchase them afterwards so they can collect their favorite pages, or bookmark their own path(s) through the world. At least as long as supplies last.

How long is each page going to be?

As long as it needs to be. I'm not going to split longer pages in two, just because I could justify it because of the word count, nor will I stretch shorter pages to hit some arbitrary number of characters. It's all about the story here.
