The Motley Cow (la vache bigarrée)

«
This tree standeth lonely here on the hils; it hath grown up high above man and beast.
And if it wanted to speak, it would have none who could understand it: so high hath it grown.
Now it waiteth and waiteth, --for what doth it wait? It dwelleth too close to the seat of the cloud; it waiteth perhaps for the first lightning ?
»

--- Extract of The tree on the hill from "Thus spoke Zarathustra", F. Nietzsche (1885).

The motley cow (also known as The Pie Cow, or "la vache multicolore") is the name of an imaginary valley which is surrounded by this lonely tree.
