Harlequins

Harlequins

WebGL2, a fast GPU will make it more enjoyable. There's an initial pre-compute phase for the animation and that can pause a slow GPU for a few seconds.

Harlequins is an exploration in generating beautiful color and texture out of often-discordant beginnings. Much like our world.

Each Harlequin has random materials, background, and a random number of moons around it. Each frame adds more painted light and turns the initial harsh scene into a dreamlike blending of color, creating smooth matte colors on the central orb.

Harlequins is the result of a few months of generative work and lookdev on top of older long-exposure path tracing shaders. The runner and custom WebGL lib are written in TypeScript, lot of GLSL for the fragment shaders, then the whole thing is compiled, minified, and inlined into the final single self-contained HTML file. 6.4k zipped.

Ilmari Heikkinen 2022. Have fun.
