clique is defined as:

• /klēk,klik/ (n.) a small group of people, with shared interests or other features in common, who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.

cliques can offer safety. (something about numbers.)

cliques can offer a place to be. (for better or worse.)

sometimes cliques have sub-cliques. (the intersections can get a bit complicated.)

sometimes a member of a clique may still feel outside of it. (power dynamics can ruin things.)

occasionally clique dynamics are balanced and the connections between the members pull towards the center. (we can consider that non-toxic.)

often, though, the connections are pulled in various directions and the connection between two members are swayed (or pulled towards) other members. (we can consider that toxic.)
