Journeys #16

As #fxhashturnsone, it seemed apt to release one of my old WIPs, Journeys, to showcase my own journey in the creative coding space. The piece tries to recreate subway maps in a generative fashion, and is meant to reflect the journeys of people as they move and interact with each other. Some journey alongside each other before branching off, while others only meet at the end of their journeys. Even more will never meet at all.

The piece tries to recreate subway maps in a generative fashion, and is meant to reflect the journeys of people as they move and interact with each other. Some journey alongside each other before branching off, while others only meet at the end of their journeys. Even more will never meet at all.

Several flow fields randomly determine the flow of each line, while attractors cause lines to be naturally drawn to certain places on the map. The code checks to ensure that lines do not overlap (but they can intersect!) and ensures a minimum distance between adjacent lines. Several code chunks are referenced in the comments which calculate intersections between points / lines.

THIS CODE IS VERY MUCH RAW AND UNFINISHED! It reflects my own growth in the space, where I started out, and where I'm heading towards. Happy birthday fxHash! I hope everyone finds their own Journey out there.
