This generative art project explores the potential of simple rule systems to create highly complex patterns.
Utilizing an elementary cellular automaton whose cells are defined by 2 or more states, the project employs a randomized rule set to generate unforced, intricate structures.
Through a process of initial sorting, the monotonic patterns are discarded, allowing for a more significant examination of the resulting structures.

The title "MetaSignal" is a metaphor to suggest that these unpredictable patterns may hold clues to different levels of reality.
The project delves into the mystery of how simple rules can give rise to such diversity, inviting the viewer to consider their own perceptions of the world and question the nature of the reality we experience.

The default output is a square of 2048² pixels, other aspect ratios have about the same number of total pixels.

• press '1', '2', '3', '4' to scale the canvas to x1, x2, x4, x8
