Artists Need To Eat Too

I would have liked more time to compile this, but alas here it is, my 5 Tezos Art Collection (4.74 + gas, Ackchyually!). It took about 5 (yes, 5) minutes following the announcement of this challenge for Artists to come out in protest, apparently missing the entire point. As a counterpoint I've deliberately gone back to the earliest NFT's on Tezos, and picked out some pieces I felt were interesting/relevant, and that Artists at the time were apparently happy to list for 1 Tez or less. From the get-go, the thing that has always intrigued me the most about the art movement here is the inclusivity of it. The experimentation we've seen in 2 short years has been nothing short of wild. Does all of the work stand up? No, but some of it caught the zeitgeist of a movement that leads to places we have not yet seen. I'm here for it...

5TezCollection: Year 2

I actually did my first 5 Tez challenge last June 2022. I was recovering from Covid and couldn't sleep from the doctor prescribed steroids. I had spent all my tezos and found myself looking through projects at 2am that I couldn’t afford. I only had about 5 tez liquid, so I thought I'd run an experiment with my 5 tez. Make it a game. At first I figured I'd only be able to afford about 5 pieces for an average of 1 tez each.

Identity and landscapes, a feeling of belonging.

Collecting art is a very personal experience and there are many motivations for it. For the challenge of creating a collection with just 5 tezos I thought about what I love about collecting and the art I already have. I realised the body of my collection is really like a landscape, a home, a place that I identify with..and that was the impetus of this mini collection, my #5tezcollection . Creating a collection is a journey through time. Over moments and years we can look back over the terrain we have crossed, the ideas that inspired us and how each experience/interaction with a work has shaped our identity, our place. I collected these pieces on primary from artists I love and have collected from before. These works were made pre the #5tezcollection challenge and represent the excellent calibre of artists minting work on tezos today, found via Objkt & Fxhash.

Michael wanted for his creation not to be forgotten, yet he also wanted it not to escape. Michael's creation eventually found Lucas' stories in the trash, and she had a thought that an incoming signal might be a flower, not an algorithm.
